“Bigfoot teaching psychology to boars!” “A kitten in a racecar!” “A pony giving a lap dance!” If you’ve ever played Charades or Pictionary, then you’re already familiar with some of the crazy guesses that your friends and family typically belt out when they’re trying to guess the person, place, or thing you’re drawing or acting out. Heads Up!, a party game promoted by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, works on the same principle of acting like a fool for laughs. It delivers nicely, though some issues keep it from being a top-notch party game.

Back in April, I had the good fortune of moderating a panel at the Social Casino Summit in San Francisco. The panel was about how to stand out in the crowded social casino marketplace.  It’s a topic that Michael Carpenter, CEO of Ruby Seven Studios, knows all too well.

Striking a balance between depth and accessibility has often been a hassle in strategy RPGs. Some games aren’t deep enough and others are too difficult. A select few games take the Goldilocks route and are just right. Rebirth of Fortune 2 comes close to finding that balance, but slow-paced battles and imbalanced multiplayer take away from what is otherwise a fun experience.

We’ve been hearing a lot of rumbling (or squawking) around these parts lately about the hotly anticipated Angry Birds animated movie that Rovio has wanted to make. We already knew that a number of major studios were vying for the rights to purchase the film, but now we have official confirmation this week that Sony Pictures Entertainment has been the early bird to get the multi-million dollar worm.

I am MT: Card Battle is a card battle game from LOCOJOY, wherein you must find and collect cards, and then use them in PVP battle arenas. Summoning the correct cards, leveling up, and knowing how to battle can all be difficult, but with Gamezebo’s quick start guide you’ll have all of the tips, tricks, and walkthroughs you’ll need to stay ahead of the game.

I like a good fantasy role-playing game as much as anyone, but sometimes you just get that craving for a different setting. Like, any other setting. And while there are alternatives out there, not many involve leading a group of explorers through the New World of the 16th Century. Expeditions: Conquistador will do just that come May 30, turning the search for El Dorado into a tactical RPG for PC, Mac or Linux computers.

Legacy Tales: Mercy of the Gallows is an instantly striking hidden object puzzle game that has everything it takes to pull players in. Great voice acting in the initial cutscene speaks of a lifelong romance that actually wasn’t: as the wife of a noble captain vanishes, and the captain is found dead on the coast of the ocean. While the game starts off with a bang, it quickly fizzles into a slow moving and ultimately disappointing experience.

We’re less than a day away from the latest Star Trek motion picture, and even if you’re not a Trekker, there’s a pretty good chance that this could be your summer movie of the year.  Of course, spending 133 minutes in the theater might not be quite enough to give you your fill of the final frontier. When you get home from the movies, you’re going to want to set phasers to fun!

The squad-based tactical shooter is a familiar face on the PC, but iOS evangelists don’t often get to savor it on their platform of choice.  The recent release of the uniquely challenging Frozen Synapse on iPad proves that not only can tactics games exist on the portable platform, but they can also thrive there.

Japan is the only country in the world where mobile games are regularly being advertised on television. And this isn’t about cheap night time slots in niche TV programs no one watches: DeNA, GREE, GungHo, and many other developers are paying for spots aired during prime time, on national TV channels, and in heavy rotation. This has been going on for years.

Your smartphone and tablet just got a whole lot more adorable, because King has announced this morning that their popular social game Pet Rescue Saga will be headed to mobile devices starting this summer. Pet Rescue Saga is currently the third largest game overall on the Facebook platform, with more than 6 million players visiting the unique and charming fairytale landscapes on a daily basis.
